Classic Car Treasure Hunt

The following information has been received from the Tourism and Marketing department of the English Riviera Tourist Board. Though the CBCCC had no direct involvement individual members might be interested to know of the event.

" A Classic Car Treasure Hunt event taking place as part of the Agatha Christie Festival 2008 on Sunday 21st September 2008.

The treasure hunt will take place around Torbay and will take its participants to some of Agatha Christie’s favourite haunts and landmarks as well as taking in some of Torbay’s most spectacular views! Each car must solve the clues and pick up certain artifacts from the area to gain points and win the hunt! The hunt will begin at 10.30am in the grounds of the historic Torre Abbey and should take between 2 to 3 hours to complete, finishing at the mystery destination where prizes will be given to the winners and then a Sunday Carvery will be served.

This should be a brilliant day out which will lead you to various Christie-related locations on the English Riviera, in a tournée replete with stunning views and interesting historical gems! An event not to be missed!

The price will be £10 per person however this includes a Sunday Carvery worth £9.95 for all participants and a free copy of the guide book ‘Agatha Christie Country’.

I would really appreciate it if you could pass this information on to your members so that they have the opportunity to sign up and take part in this fabulous event."

Please direct all inquiries to MICHELLE DOWELL, Tourism and Marketing Assistant on 01803 296296.

Historic Vehicle Gathering Plaques

If you were intending to exhibit a vehicle at the event on the Sunday but like everyone else was thwarted by the weather and so were unable to collect one of this year's commemorative plaques, we can help.

Please send a Stamped Addressed Envelope, along with a note of your entry number for the event to:-
H Ryder,
C/0 Westhayes, Barton Road, Shillingford Abbot, Exeter, Devon EX2 9QQ and a plaque will duly be posted to you.

As we all know by now was the abrupt end to this year's Historic Vehicle Gathering at Powderham. The heavy rain during the latter part of Saturday and overnight creating a quagmire in all areas. In particular the public car park had become quite impossible to get into let alone get out of!

So sadly the organisers had to cancel the event early Sunday morning. We are however very grateful for the many messages of support and understanding received from not only those who where already on site but those intending to come along on the Sunday.

The descision did mean that we were are able to see the safe exit, without too much drama, of all the heavy machinery from the show field during Sunday plus assisting with others marooned in fields of thick mud in others areas on the site.

Here's hoping that the weather on the second weekend of July in 2009 is more like summer.

The visit by over 60 members to Classic Le Mans went off well. This year (it's a bi-annual event) the Club had it's own marquee area so enabling all those going to display their cars in one place near the circuit.
